Huawei officially unveiled a new law in the semiconductor field, stating that transistor density and system performance have achieved new breakthroughs through logic folding technology

SHANGHAI, May 25 (Xinhua) -- A new law in the semiconductor field, the "Tao (τ) Law," was presented at the 2026 International Symposium on Circuits and Systems on May 25. This is the first time that a Chinese enterprise has proposed a new principle guiding industrial development in the global semiconductor field.
The "Tao Law" was officially announced by He Tingbo, Director of Huawei and President of the Semiconductor Business Department, in a keynote speech titled "Exploration and Practice of a New Path for Semiconductors". Based on this law, Huawei has successfully designed and mass-produced 381 chip models over the past six years. The Huawei Kirin mobile phone chip, which will be launched this autumn, fully adopts logic folding technology, significantly enhancing its performance.
The "Tao Law" proposes to replace "geometric scaling" with "temporal scaling", aiming to systematically reduce the time constant τ. Through innovative techniques such as logic folding, it continuously compresses signal propagation delay and increases transistor density, enabling the continuous evolution of semiconductors and electronic systems.
The "Tao Law" establishes a multi-level collaborative optimization system that spans from devices, circuits, chips to systems. According to reports, it is expected that by 2031, the transistor density of high-end chips based on this law will reach the same level as that of 1.4-nanometer processes.
